On February 13th 2011, the CBC announced that, based on a pilot they had screened, a full season order had given to a comedy series, Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays, from writer and actor Bob Martin and Rhombus Films. The pilot starred Bob Martin, Martha Burns and Jennifer Irwin, and was directed by Don McKellar. Sari Friedland produced.
Om June 8th, the CBC announced that the new half-hour series would debut on Wednesday September 14th at 9 pm.
Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays would be the story of psychiatrist David Storper (played by Bob Martin) and his most challenging patient, Michael (played by Matt Watts). After fifteen years, Michael was still seeing David twice a week, and they had become friends. Michael was single, and David’s marriage had failed in part because of his dedication to his work.
Others named to the series cast included Martha Burns as Jasmina, Jennifer Irwin as Doughboy and Pablo Silveira as Carlos. Bob Martin and Don McKellar were Executive Producers, and the producers were Niv Fichman and Sari Friedland.
On June 28th, it was announced that veteran actor Ed Asner would join the cast as Dr. Michael Wasserman, the psychiatrist to fellow shrink Dr. David Storper (Bob Martin).
On April 19th 2012, the CBC announced that because of budget cuts Michael Tuesdays and Thursdays had been cancelled, and would not be part of the CBC’s 2012-13 season schedule.
However, on March 4th 2015 the CBC announced that a second season of six new episodes of Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays would be produced, for broadcast in 2016.
