Steven and Chris Show, The

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 2008 to 2015

Broadcast Medium: Television

Debuted Monday January 14, 2008 at 2PM.

After the cancellation of the Gill Deacon Show in 2007, CBC programmers still wanted to feature a daytime lifestyle program targeted at women. This show featured two familiar faces, Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman from The Designer Guys, a daytime show popular on HGTV in Canada, and 17 countries worldwide.

As the CBC press release stated boldly, “The Steven & Chris Show is about living life large and having fun doing it.” The daily program offered ideas on home décor, relationships, cooking, entertaining, fashion and health, hosted  by this openly gay couple.

Such was the success of the series that in May 2008 the CBC announced that it would be returning for a second season in the fall. However, with the economy worsening, the CBC announced in March 2009 that the Steven and Chris Show would be going on hiatus following completion of March production.

Steven and Chris returned to the CBC schedule for a third season, weekdays at 2pm, on January 4th 2010.  After a summer hiatus, the series returned to CBC on September 20th.     In February 2011, the Steven and Chris show was included in a list of CBC series announced for renewal for the 2011-2012 season, and the fall schedule released on June 8th had the series in its regular 2 pm time slot, where it played for the rest of the year, returning in January 2013 with new episodes.

On April 3rd 2013 the CBC confirmed that the Steven and Chris series had been renewed for the 2013-14 season, and a year later, on April 4th 2014, yet another renewal was announced, for the 2014-15 season. The CBC 2014-15 schedule released on May 29th showed Steven and Chris scheduled weekdays at 2:00 pm.

On March 4th 2015 the CBC announced that a further season of 130 half-hour episodes of Steven and Chris had been ordered for broadcast in the Fall of 2015.   But on August 4th 2015 it was reported that Chris Hyndman had died suddenly, and the CBC announced that the series would not continue.

However, on Monday October 3rd Steven Sabados returned to the CBC schedule with a new show titled The Goods, which was scheduled daily Monday through Friday 2.00 – 2.30pm . Appearing on the series with Steven were comic and fashion expert Jessi Cruickshank, lifestyle expert Andrea Bain and chef Shahir Massoud.
