This hour long documentary series borrowed its ideas from A&E’s Biography program. This series featured co-productions with CBC and offered viewers a cross-section of Canadian biographies from business, politics, sports and the Arts. It often featured interviews with the subjects themselves while remaining slightly critical of their careers in a particular field. Gordon Pinsent introduced the program in the first couple of seasons followed by Ann-Marie MacDonald.
182 Canadians wereprofiled on the series during its ten-year run, including, Wayne Gretzky, Cathy Jones, Second City Parts 1, 2 & 3, Ron Lancaster, Gordie Howe, William Hutt, Rex Harrington, Elizabeth Manley, Barenaked Ladies, Wade Davis, Moe Norman, Joni Mitchell, and more.
Life & Times won 4 Gemini Awards, two Gold Medals at the New York Television Festival and recognition at the Columbus International Video Festival.
Following the conclusion of the series on CBC, it was frequently seen in repeats on some cable speciality channels.
