The Kids of Degrassi Street was a series which ran on the CBC from 1979 to 1986. A weekly drama,  based on that series, began as Degrassi Junior High in 1987. It was a series about the life and times of the kids of Degrassi Street in
downtown Toronto, and aired from 1987 to 1989.

It was followed in  1989 by Degrassi High, which ran from 1989 to 1991, when the series ended on the CBC.   After a ten-year hiatus, Degrassi: the  Next Generation debuted on CTV in 2001, and ran to early 2010.

On July 16th 2012, by which time the series had reverted to its basic Degrassi title, new episodes of Degrassi began to air weeknights, Monday-Thursday, starting on MuchMusic and MuchMusic.com.

By this time, Degrassi was produced by Epitome Pictures in association with MuchMusic/CTV. The series was co-created by Linda Schuyler, co-producer of the original DEGRASSI series and Yan Moore. Schuyler and Stephen Stohn served as Executive Producers. Sarah Glinski executive produces. Distribution company for the series was Echo Bridge Entertainment
