Its companion Sunday edition premiered the following day, October 12th. Produced by Richard Nielsen and George Robertson, the program was hosted at various times by Lloyd Robertson, Charlotte Gobeil, James Eayrs, Kay Sigurjonsson and Peter Riley.

Supported by the CBC’s substantial news-gathering resources, Weekend combined hard news reports with no-holds-barred in-studio interviews with personalities from all walks of life, film reviews and live reporting from around the country .

The Saturday edition was dropped after a year, while the Sunday edition continued until 1973. Among the reporters and interviewers who appeared on the series were George Frajkor, Larry Zolf, Rakph Thomas, Doug Collins, Norman DePoe, Barry Callaghan, Peter Desbarats and Knowlton Nash
