Campbells, The

Network: CTV Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1986 to 1989

Broadcast Medium: Television

A Scottish/Canadian co-production, this half hour drama series starred Malcolm Stoddard as Dr. James Campbell, the widower patriarch of three Scottish clans who emigrated to Canada in the 1830s to start a new life. Amber Lea Weston played his daughter Emma, John Wildman was his son Neil, Eric Richards played younger son John, and Cedric Smith -as Captain Thomas Sims – was first their antagonist but later the Campbells’ staunchest supporter. Rosemary Dunsmore and Brigit Wilson were among the other regulars in the talented cast.

The hardships of pioneer life were very realistically depicted in The Campbells, which received several Gemini nominations. The series launched in September 1986 on Thursdays at 7:30pm, a time period which it held comfortably for the three seasons it graced the CTV schedule. Its final airing was in September 1989.
