Super Dave

Network: Global Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1988 to 1991

Broadcast Medium: Television

Super Dave, played by Bob Einstein, was an unsuccessful stuntman who made a parody of his profession. Dave was joined each week by a wide array of musical and comedy guests, including Canadian acts Blue Rodeo, Colin James, Doug and the Slugs, Liona Boyd, the Razorbacks, k.d. lang, the North Pikes and Sue Medley and American acts like the Smothers Brothers, Ray Charles and Joe Cocker. After introducing his guest, Super Dave would announce his next great stunt. But thanks to the incompetence of his engineer Fuji (Art Irizawa) and assistant Donald (Don Lake), each stunt ended badly for Dave. Real-life L.A. sportscaster Mike Walden provided a heartless play- by- play.

Super Dave was created by Winnipeg-born producer Allan Blye, initially for the short-lived variety show Van Dyke and Company (1976), then continued to develop the character on CTV’s Bizarre. He co-created The Super Dave Osborne Show.
