In April 2009 the CBC announced that its fall schedule would include a half-hour 12-episode series starring comedian Ron James, and featuring sketches, animation and stand-up comedy from the star . The series debuted on CBC at 8:30pm on Friday September 25th 2009, in the time period vacated by the long-running Royal Canadian Air Farce and season one ended on December 31st 2009.
The series was renewed for 2010, and ran from September 24th to December 31st. On February 13th 2011 the CBC announced that the Ron James Show would be included in their 2011-2012 scheduling plans. On June 8th it was confirmed that the series would resume on Fridays at 8 pm effective September 16th.
On April 19th 2012, the CBC announced that the Ron James Show would be returning to the CBC schedule for the 2012-13 season. On November 13th it was announced that season four of the Ron James Show would begin on Monday January 7th 2013.
On April 3rd 2013, the CBC confirmed that the Ron James Show had been renewed for the 2013-14 season, and February 24th 2014 was later set as the start date.
On March 14th 2014, Ron James announced on Facebook that his series had been cancelled by the CBC and would not be returning for the 2014-15 season.
