Being Erica was the story of Erica Strange, a 30-something single woman who got a second chance to re-examine the choices she made in high school. Taking her back in time was the mysterious Dr. Tom, a therapist with a difference. He offered Erica the benefit of hindsight and allowed   her to see the results of the choices she made as a teenager. Each week Erica got to change the mediocre life she currently lived as a single woman.

Ivan Schneeberg produced this hour-long drama, originally titled The Session,  for CBC, with David Fortier of Temple Street Productions Inc.

The series debuted on January 5, 2009 at 9pm, and in April the CBC announced that Being Erica had been renewed for the 2009-2010 season. The continued popularity of Being Erica was again noted when the series returned for a third season on September 21st 2010.

On February 11th 2011, the CBC announced that Being Erica would return in the fall for a fourth and final season. Meantime, it was also reported that companies in both the US and the UK had acquired the rights to develop local versions of the series. On June 8th, the CBC announced that Being Erica would return on Mondays at 9 pm effective September 26th.

Early in 2012 the CBC announced that Being Erica would not be renewed for the 2012-2013 season.
