Another spin-off for CHUM Limited from their highly successful MuchMusic channel was MuchLoud, which was licensed by the CRTC in December of 2000 to provide “a…… television service dedicated exclusively to alternative, hard rock, metal and punk music or alternative music-related programming.” The channel launched in September 2001.
A CRTC hearing on an application by CTVglobemedia to acquire the assets of CHUM Limited was held on April 30th 2007. Among the CHUM assets acquired by CTVglobemedia in the final approved deal were seven television stations, some 33 radio stations, and 21 specialty channels, including MuchLoud.
In 2016, Stingray Digital purchased MuchLoud from Bell Media and the channel was renamed Stingray Loud.
