Land and Sea

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1964

Broadcast Medium: Television

Debuted in October 1964.

This half-hour public affairs program was originally produced in two regions: Halifax and St. John’s. The two units eventually merged to produce a unique program about Atlantic Canada. The show’s mandate was to tell stories about the people who lived off the land and worked the resources of the sea. It is still seen (2006) weekly on CBC television and on Country Canada, the digital channel. There have been several hosts of Land and Sea over the years starting with Dave Quinton. [1964-1991] Other hosts with Quinton included Rob Carnell, Hal Andrews, Des Brown, Mike Martin, Herb Davis, Peter Varner and Paul Harrington. Bill Kelly joined the show in 1983 and stayed until he retired in 1993. The most recent host was Pauline Thornhill.
