La fureur

Network: Société Radio-Canada (SRC) TV Network

Broadcast Run: 1998 to 2007

Broadcast Medium: Television

What had been initially planned for only the 1998 summer season proved to be such a big hit that Radio-Canada billed it as one of its top shows for the upcoming 1998 fall season. Hosted by Véronique Cloutier from 1998 to 2002, and then by Sébastien Benoît until its final broadcast on December 31, 2007, La fureur, which lasted 60 minutes, was a game show built upon certain aspects of karaoke, as well as upon asking original and wide-ranging questions regarding popular songs.

Every week, celebrity participants, four gals and four guys, had to compete against one another with regard to their ear, their voice and their musical knowledge and ability to identify various songs. Since it début on June 25, 1998, some 2,200 different songs were sung (71% of which were French songs) by various guest artists. Over the years, more than 250,000 people had attended Le Fureur live.

Every week, Studio 42 at the Maison de Radio-Canada played host to some 750 people. This devoted public was joined at times by huge crowds who attended special programs that were organized in massive venues: such as Jarry Park, the Quebec City Coliseum, the Ottawa Civic Centre and twice at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
