Du Maurier, a cigarette manufacturer, sponsored this talent contest that had 15 finalists compete in a Search for the Stars type of competition.
Five acts performed on each of the first 3 broadcasts with the finalists performing live at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto. One potential reward was the prospect of the CBC giving the winners work in future variety productions.
