Et Dieu créa… Laflaque was the world as seen through the eyes of Gérard D. Laflaque, a virtual good-natured host, an original concept conceived by the celebrated La Presse cartoonist, Serge Chapleau.
Every week, Gérard invited the viewers into his private life, with short, hilarious, fictional vignettes. His family (his wife Georgette, his son Marcel, his father…), his friends (his neighbour Edmond, Senator Jacques Demers, Ms. Loulou…) and his colleagues from work (Roger the cameraman, Victor-Hugo the director, Ms. Bombardier…) ensured that there was never a dull moment in his life, and in general, he rightly deserved all the misfortunes that befell him.
The character of Gérard D. Laflaque traced its beginnings back to 1982 at Télé-Québec, when he took the form of a latex marionette who did a short 60-second vignette that was aptly called La minute à Gérard D. Laflaque. His name was derived from that of an ex-Minister and MP who represented the Bonaventure riding, Gérard D. Lévesque.
