Doc Zone

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1965

Broadcast Medium: Television

Debut October 4, 2007 at 9PM

This series, dedicated to documentary filmmakers, maintained a long-standing commitment by CBC to Canadian producers and directors, to broadcast their work. This series provided  the same kind of informative and entertaining documentaries reflecting a Canadian point-of-view as such series as Compass in 1965 and Gallery in 1973. Early subjects included Canada’s health care system, China’s sexual revolution and a look at climate change.

By 2011, Doc Zone had become CBC’s flagship documentary series (with Passionate Eye now appearing regularly on CBC Newsworld), as it explored and expanded on current major issues .  Hosted by Ann-Marie Macdonald,  the series was renewed for the 2011-2012 season, on Thursdays at 8:00pm.

On April 19th 2012 the CBC confirmed the series’ renewal for the 2012-13 season, and it was part of the CBC’s fall schedule that was announced on May 10th.   On April 3rd 2013, the CBC announced that Doc Zone would again be part of the CBC Network schedule in the 2013-14 season.  It returned on Thursdays at 9 pm.

On April 4th 2014 it was confirmed that Doc Zone would be returning for the 2014-2015 season, and the series was shown at 9:00 pm on Thursdays in the CBC fall schedule announced on May 29th 2014.
