In December 2000 the Global Television Network was granted a licence for a new specialty channel, to be called Pop TV.  It was to provide classic television series which were at least fifteen years old, and movies which were at least 25 years old, which, the CRTC opined, would “explore vintage television and the cultural impact of television on our society, and provide a window on television history”. By the time the service was launched in September 2001, the name of the channel had changed to Deja View.

As the 2009-2010 season loomed, Deja View promised the cable premiere of Saved By The Bell, seasons one through five.

On October 27, 2010, HGTV’s ownership changed as Shaw Communications acquired Canwest and Goldman Sachs’ interest in CanWest Media. On April 1, 2016, Shaw Media was acquired by Corus Entertainment.
