Club 6

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1960 to 1962

Broadcast Medium: Television

Aired Tuesday evenings after the news, from October 1960 to June of 1961, and then returned for a short run in the spring of 1962.

With the success of American Bandstand, hosted by Dick Clark, the CBC attempted its own version with Club 6. But to fulfill its mandate, the CBC added elements of news and information suitable for the teenage audience.

Produced from a selected high school in Toronto, the format consisted of teens dancing to contemporary hit records well within the confines of good taste. The program also featured performances by Tommy Ambrose, Pat Hervey, the Walter Boys and the Mickey Shannon Combo. [See: Music Hop]

Hosts: Mike Darow, Bob Willson [DJs from CHUM radio]

Producers: Denny Spence and Paddy Sampson
