CBC Drama ’73

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1969 to 1970

Broadcast Medium: Television

Aired Sunday nights from September to December, 1973.

The CBC’s commitment to produce Canadian drama meant that this form of programming was a regular part of the TV schedule during the 50s and 60s. As budgets changed and the cost of producing Canadian drama increased, the CBC reduced its number of shows to limited series or movies for television.

This program featured ten one hour adaptations of well-known Canadian books and short stories.

More Joy In Heaven, by Morley Callaghan was adapted for television and starred John Vernon.  Margaret Laurence’s short story called A Bird in the House was adapted by Patricia Watson and directed by Allan King. Other titles included Vicky by Graham Wood, Our Ms. Hammond by Joseph Schull, The Changeling by Tony Sheer and Lighten My Darkness, written by Charles E. Israel.

Ronald Weyman was the Executive Producer of the anthology series.
