In February 2010, the CBC announced that it had picked up from E1 Television and Serendipity Point Films a new series of half-hour sitcoms based on the sucessful Paul Gross curling movie Men With Brooms, about a group of men in a small-town curling club.
Executive producer Paul Mather said that the comedy would pick up the story several years after the events of the 2002 movie, which starred Paul Gross. Gross would be acting as narrator for the series, and would make occasional guest appearances as local curling legend Chris Cutter.
Mather, who was writer and showrunner on the series. also penned episodes of CBC’s Little Mosque on the Prairie.
On October 4th 2010, the Men with Brooms series debuted on the network, and ran for twelve episodes, ending on December 13th 2010. As planned, Paul Gross appeared in the first episode, and narrated the series, as well as appearing in a few cameos.
On February 11th 2011 the CBC announced seventeen series that would be returning in the 2011-2012 season. Men With Brooms was not among them, and no further episodes were ordered.
