Abroad was a pilot written by Globe and Mail columnist Leah McLaren, based on her experiences as a London-based reporter. The storyline had Amy Pearce, a Canadian reporter, trying to understand English men while working in a junior position in a London newspaper. The lead role was played by Liane Balaban.
The pilot co-starred Sean Cullen as an eccentric editor, with Maury Chaykin playing the owner of the newspaper. Leah McLaren was the Executive Producer.
The two-hour pilot was broadcast on March 14th 2010.
The program was not included in the CBC’s February 13th 2011 announcement of the programs for their fall 2011 schedule.
