This half-hour summer series featured the visual work of John Stoneman, the renowned documentary filmmaker whose specialty was underwater photography. This 13 part series featured Canadian stories about the country’s marine life and marine history. Stoneman was a qualified diver and photographer who produced and directed a highly-successful Imax movie in 1979, which was called Nomads of the Deep, about the humpback whale. John also had a very successful underwater series on CTV from 1987 to 1990, titled The Last Frontier.
The Ocean World of John Stoneman offered viewers a first hand look at shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, whales, seals and sea life in the Arctic Ocean. The program was so successful that the CBC rebroadcast the series until 1997.
