Suzuki on Science

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1969 to 1970

Broadcast Medium: Television

Aired Sunday afternoons from January to March, 1972; aired Monday nights during the summer of 1971.
David Suzuki was the host of this half hour program that focused on his special interest in genetics. This was his first venture into broadcasting while professor of Zoology at the University of British Columbia. The first episodes covered fertilization and genes, immune systems, the brain, death and research into methods of extending life. The topics expanded into other areas of science when the show became a hit with viewers. This was mostly due to Suzuki’s unique ability to talk about science in lay terms.
Suzuki went on to host Quirks & Quarks on CBC radio. In 1980, he made the full commitment to television as host of The Nature of Things.
The series originated in Vancouver, and was produced by Keith Christie.
