These seven 30-minute broadcasts represented something of a risk for the CBC: independent film. But it was 1969 and a lot of experimental films were being produced as the technology changed and became more accessible to a new generation of filmmakers.
Program one featured Mort Ransen, discussing his work with a group of teens from Toronto. Out of these discussions came a film called Christopher’s Movie Matinee.
Subsequent programs included student productions from McMaster University, a film about artist Joyce Wieland, and animation from the Vancouver Art School. Most of the films were short subjects rather than long-form features.
