In May 2003, Dieter Kohler was granted a cable specialty licence for a channel then planned to be known as The Hunting Channel. When it was launched in September 2004, from its headquarters in Edmonton, Alberta, the channel had been renamed Wild TV, but the content was as originally planned, with hunting, fishing and environmental programming about the outdoors, from Canada and around the world. On January 28, 2010, Wild TV HD was launched to simulcast the standard definition feed.
