What Marketplace was to adults, Street Cents was to youth. A weekly consumer-affairs program dedicated to teaching young people everything about the marketplace and getting value for the dollar. The show was information-based: not designed to sell youth anything. In fact, due to contributions in the region of one million dollars raised from Federal agencies and corporations, the program was commercial-free.
Later hosted by Kim D’Eon, Daryl Kite and Allie Dixon. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the show debuted in 1986 with hosts Anna Dirksen, Benita Ha, Brian Heighten, Jamie Bradley and Jonathan Torrens. The program aired Monday evenings at 5:30 PM. It won many awards including The Japan Prize and an International Emmy.
Creator and Executive Producer of Street Cents was John Nowlan.
