He billed himself as “The world’s foremost mentalist” (as well as “The Amazing…”), and for two years his half-hour series was seen on CTV. His professional name was adapted from his true surname, Kresge, and his early inspiration came from watching Mandrake The Magician. His mentalist feats – he never claimed to be a mind reader or a hypnotist – involved such elements as cards, sealed envelopes, audience involvement, and a weekly celebrity guest – William Shatner appeared four times – who would participate in the ‘mental feat of the week’.
While the series had a two-year run on CTV from 1972 to 1974, on Sundays at 7:00pm and then 6:30pm, it continued for several years in syndication. It was produced for CTV by CJOH-TV Ottawa, whose staffer Bill Luxton was the announcer on the show.
