Still Standing was the title of a new series of thirteen half-hours ordered by the CBC from Frantic Films for the summer of 2015. It debuted on June 23rd 2015.
As described by the CBC, Still Standing followed Canadian comedian Jonny Harris (already familiar to Canadian viewers as Constable Crabtree in Murdoich Mysteries), as he set off across the country, veering off the main highway to discover the hidden comedy in Canada’s far-flung small towns. Each week, Jonny tried to find humour in the unlikeliest of places — small towns ‘on the ropes’. After immersing himself in the lives of local characters and unearthing the tall tales in these tiny towns, Jonny would then deliver a stand-up comedy routine — a toast, not a roast — for the whole community.
From coast to coast to coast, Still Standing showcased Canada’s vast beauty and highlighted the country’s unique and diverse characters.
Season 2 of Still Standing premiered on June 14. On July 19, 2016, the series was renewed for a third season of 13 episodes, , which aired starting on June 27, 2017 and ended on September 12th.
The series was renewed for 2018, and the series ran from September 18th to December 11th in that year.
On March 25th 2019 it was confirmed that Still Standing would be returning to the CBC schedule for the 2019-2020 season, and on May 27th 2020 the series was announced as renewed for a sixth season, starting in the fall.
