This short series of 4 hour long programs, was the result of a dispute between the CBC and ACTRA, the actor’s union. A production of Nellie McClung was on the production schedule, but cancelled leaving 3 days of studio time and $40,000 available for use. Producer Jim McKenna pitched a music program in its place called Sounds Good.
The show featured four styles of music: country, jazz, folk and disco.
The folk music show starred David Wiffen, Ellen McIlwaine, Myles and Lenny, and Don McLean; the country show starred Carroll Baker, with Tim Daniels, Mary Lou Del Gatto, and Prairie Oyster; the disco show spotlighted Crack of Dawn, Sweet Blindness, Rick Wamil, and Soul Express; and the jazz show starred the Moe Koffman Sextet, Aura, Peter Appleyard, and Clark Terry.
