Broadcast Run: 1960
Broadcast Medium: Television
Aired Sunday afternoons from April 17 to June 26, 1960.
Produced in Winnipeg, this show featured Jack Shapira and his orchestra in a 30-minute music/variety show. The program was memorable for featuring amateur talent mixed with the pros. For instance, Wally Keep, the singing cab driver; Father Clayton Barclay, harpsichordist, and ventriloquist Bobby Swartz and his dummy Elmer. But the show wasn’t afraid to feature the talents of singer Ray Eberle, and concert pianist Emmanual Ax.
What made the show even more adventurous, or peculiar to some viewers, was the segment called Shapira Sound Track: an original film about sections of the city of Winnipeg. The subjects ranged from shopping on Friday night to a visit to the CPR freight yards.
