Sex Files

Network: CTV Television Network

Broadcast Run: 2001 to 2006

Broadcast Medium: Television

After two highly successful years on the Discovery Channel, The Sex Files found its way into the CTV Network schedule in the fall of 2001, while continuing to play on Discovery. Produced in a light-hearted yet scientific format, the series showcased the latest scientific findings about “everything from erections to fetishes”, as one press release put it.

Chilean-Italian hostess Gisel Della Chiara narrated , and introduced all kinds of subjects dealing with the science of sex, with a very down-to-earth approach.

When the series joined the CTV schedule in September 2001, it was scheduled at midnight on Saturdays. There were a predictable number of complaints to the CRTC and the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council about the program’s content, but  those bodies have taken no action, presumably because the respective broadcasters  provided appropriate advisories and, in the case of CTV, scheduled the program in what was regarded as an ‘adult’ time period for over-the-air broadcasting (as opposed to cable). The program was renewed in June 2004 for the 2004-2005 season, continuing to be scheduled at midnight on Saturdays.
