Salter Street Films were licensed in November 2000 to operate a cable specialty channel to be called Scream, to be dedicated to the horror genre, with a mix of movies, horror series “….and magazine shows that explore the horror phenomenon.” Corus Entertainment became major shareholders before Scream was launched on September 2001, by which time Salter had been acquired by Alliance Atlantis in April 2001.
CanWest Media Networks acquired Alliance Atlantis in December 2007, and with it a minority interest in Scream.
Corus Entertainment announced on June 26th 2009 that Scream would be rebranded as Dusk, effective September 9, 2009.
The relaunch was planned to see the service expand its programming scope to include a more extensive lineup of movie titles and series that appealed to a broader demographic.
Corus said that Dusk would cater to adults 18 – 49, nd would offer viewers access to a lineup of suspense, thriller and supernatural-based Hollywood feature films and television series seven days a week, 24-hours-a-day.
Dusk continued as a partnership between Corus Entertainment Inc. and Canwest Global Communications.
Dusk ceased operations on March 23, 2012.
