This short series of 8 programs looked at the effects of technology on society’s values. It included authorities from the world of science and academia and was hosted by Patrick Watson. Many of the featured guests had made appearances on The Nature of Things, but this series had more time to explore the ethics of science in more depth.

Series highlights:

Turn a Blind Eye, a discussion of the interrelations of the scientist and society with Dr. Jacob Bronowski, James Eayrs and Malcolm Muggeridge.

Building Better Babies, on genetic engineering.

Colour Me Different, on cultural, social and racial differences among people.

Kill and Overkill, on nuclear energy.

Man on the Moon, on the space program.

Learn, Baby, Learn on education.

Should They or Shouldn’t They? on euthanasia.

Bend, Staple and Mutilate, on state monitoring of behaviour.
