1986

On October 24, Pierre Tremblay, on behalf of a company to be incorporated, received a licence for a French-language FM station at Chicoutimi. It would operate on a frequency of 96.9 MHz, and have an effective radiated power of 92,400 watts. Although, the station was licensed as an independent, 40% would be owned by the shareholders of CJMT-AM. The new station would be operated jointly with the AM station, making use of its new facilities. It would also draw on the resources of Telemedia Communications Inc. which would have a 60% interest. Five competing applications were denied.

1987

CFIX-FM signed on the air. The station shared the Mont Valin antenna owned by CJAB-FM.

1988

CFIX-FM 97 Inc. was given approval on September 27 to reduce the effective radiated power of CFIX from 92,400 to 43,800 watts. Antenna height would be increased.  The changes were requested in order to continue to use the existing facilities located on Mont Valin and also to share the antenna utilized by CJAB-FM.

1989

Telemedia purchased CJMT-AM giving it an additional station in the market.

1999

On July 29, Telemedia Radio Inc. was authorized to acquire all of the stations licensed to Telemedia Communications Inc., including CFIX. Telemedia Radio Inc. was a subsidiary of Telemedia Communications Inc.

2001

On August 9, The CRTC approves applications by Telemedia Radio Inc. on behalf of Télémédia Radio (Québec) inc., formerly 3903010 Canada Limited, to undertake a corporate reorganization. Telemedia would transfer nine radio stations (including CFIX), essentially located in Quebec, to Télémédia Radio (Québec) inc.

2002

On April 19, the CRTC approved the applications by Telemedia Radio Inc., on behalf of 3903206 Canada Inc. (TRI Quebec) to undertake an intracorporate reorganization whereby Telemedia Radio (Quebec) Inc. would transfer to its wholly-owned subsidiary TRI Quebec the assets of nine radio stations and their transmitters, two radio networks and one transitional digital radio station.

On the same date, Astral Media Inc. received approval to acquire effective control of 3903206 Canada Inc., of Telemedia Radio Atlantic Inc., and of 50% of Radiomedia Inc., by acquiring all shares held directly or indirectly by Telemedia Radio Inc. in these corporations.

2003

On May 2, Astral Media Inc. received approval for an intracorporate reorganization within its group. The reorganization involves the following transactions: a) the amalgamation of Radiomedia and Astral Radio Québec to form Amalco 1, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Astral Radio; b) the transfer of Radio Etchemin voting shares, held by Astral Radio, to Amalco 1; c) the transfer of Astral Radio voting shares, held by Astral Acquisition Inc., to Newco, a new wholly-owned subsidiary of Astral Acquisition; and d) the amalgamation of Newco and Astral Radio to form Amalco 2, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Astral Acquisition. The ultimate would continue to be exercised by Astral Media, owned by the Greenberg family. 

2004

On August 31 the CRTC renewed CFIX-FM’s licence until August 31, 2011. Conditions: The licensee shall broadcast, in each broadcast week, a minimum of 63 hours of local programming and shall maintain the current level of 1 hour and 46 minutes of news. The licensee shall make an annual payment to MusicAction of $3,000. 

2011

In August, Astral Media rebranded its “Rock Detente” stations as “Rouge FM,” with little change in the Adult Contemporary sound.

On August 31, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CFIX-FM to December 31, 2011.

2012

On July 10, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CFIX to March 31, 2013.

2013

On February 6, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence of CFIX-FM to August 31, 2013.

On June 27, 2013, after a previous such application had been denied in 2012, the CRTC approved an application by Astral Media Inc. to sell its pay and specialty television channels, conventional television stations and radio stations to BCE Inc., including CFIX-FM.

2018

CFIX changed format in June from Adult Contemporary to CHR but retained the Rouge 96.9 branding.
