1972
Algonquin Radio started at Algonquin College, as CBRT (College Broadcasting Radio Television), a closed circuit station.
1993
On September 29, Algonquin College was granted a licence for a new campus instructional radio station at Nepean. The station would operate on 96.9 MHz with effective radiated power of 8 watts.
1994
On October 3, CKDJ 96.9 signed on to the FM dial.
1998
Community broadcaster CKCU said it would launch a digital radio signal within 18 months. The transmitter was being provided by Rogers Broadcasting, which would also donate this equipment to the other two non-commercial broadcasters in Ottawa – CHUO and CKDJ.
2002
On December 11, CKDJ Algonquin Radio was granted a change of frequency from 96.9 to 107.9 MHz and an increase in effective radiated power from 8 to 100 watts. These changes took place in March 2003.
2007
On May 15 the CRTC renewed CKDJ-FM’s licence until August 31, 2014.
2012
CKDJ 107.9 FM, broadcasting from Algonquin College, announced a programming shift that put the focus on local music. In the fall, CKDJ became Ottawa’s only all local new music station, featuring interviews and exclusives with the city’s newest undiscovered artists. CKDJ music director, Doug Ralph, hoped to combine the best of community and public radio to shine a spotlight on Ottawa music.
