CHCS began operations on 410 metres with 20 watts of power. It was owned by The Hamilton Spectator newspaper, with studios in the Spectator Building on King st. In 1924, CHCS increased power to 2,000 watts. In 1926, CHCS began sharing air-time on 880 kHz with CKOC, with only 10 watts. Abandoning its own transmitter in 1930, CHCS entered into an agreement for part-time use of CKOC’s transmitter, then broadcasting on 1120 kHz.

As did a number of other newspaper-owned stations, CHCS surrendered its licence.
