1991
On June 14, the group was granted a special temporary FM licence for a French-language community radio programming undertaking at Toronto, on a frequency of 99.1 MHz, with an effective radiated power of 31 watts, to broadcast programs during “La Semaine française à Toronto”, from 16 to 23 June 1991.
La Coopérative radiophonique de Toronto inc. was incorporated on July 5.
2000
On June 16, La Coopérative radiophonique de Toronto inc. was denied a licence for a new French-language FM station at Toronto. They had proposed to operate on 93.5 MHz with effective radiated power of 457 watts. The frequency was awarded to what would become CFXJ-FM.
2003
ON April 17, La Coopérative radiophonique de Toronto inc. was awarded a licence for a new French-language FM community station at Toronto, operating on 105.1 MHz. The station would broadcast 105 hours of programming each week, of which 88 hours and 50 minutes would be devoted to locally produced programming. The station would also receive 15 hours of network programming each week from the Réseau Francophone d’Amérique and 1 hour and 15 minutes from Radio France International. Rather than compete with CJBC-AM and FM, La Coopérative planned to broadcast distinctive programming that would complement the offerings from SRC. La Coopérative had originally applied for the 91.7 MHz frequency (with ERP of 900 watts) but because of short spacing with CHOW-FM Welland, 105.1 was chosen instead.
2005
In February, La Coopérative radiophonique de Toronto inc. was granted an extension in getting its Toronto station on the air.
On November 7, CHOQ “Radio Toronto” 105.1 began testing its signal from a new transmitter site 6 Forest Laneway. Maximum power was 1,000 watts and the signal was directional. Before this date, the station had been on the air for some testing and special event broadcasts using the CKIE call sign.
CHOQ-FM started regular broadcasts later in the month.
Studios and offices for CHOQ were located at 425 Adelaide St. W. (Suite 302).
2009
On June 9 the CRTC renewed CHOQ-FM’s licence until August 31, 2011. This was an administrative renewal.
2011
On August 31, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CHOQ-FM to December 31, 2011.
2012
On August 28, the CRTC administratively renewed CHOQ-FM’s licence to March 31, 2013.
2013
On March 28, the CRTC renewed CHOQ-FM’s licence to August 31, 2019. The Commission approved the licensee’s request to delete the condition of licence relating to Canadian talent development contributions.
On July 17, the CRTC approved the application by La Coopérative Radiophonique de Toronto inc. to modify the technical parameters of CHOQ-FM by changing its licence class from A to B1, by decreasing the station’s effective radiated power from 570 to 188 watts (maximum ERP increasing from 1,000 to 1,500 watts), by increasing the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 103 to 274.6 metres and by relocating the antenna site from North York to downtown Toronto. The licensee stated that these changes were necessary to enable it to better serve the French-language population of the Greater Toronto area.
