1975

1984
On Octover 10, the CKDU-FM Society was granted a licence for an English-language student FM station at Halifax, operating on 97.5 MHz with an effective radiated power of 33 watts. CKDU had proposed to use the 93.1 MHz frequency but was directed by the Department of Communications to use 97.5 instead.
1985
CKDU signed on the air at 4:00 p.m. on February 1. The DU in the call letters: Dalhousie University.
2000
On April 12, CKDU was given approval to change frequency from 97.5 to 88.1 MHz and to increase ERP from 33 to 520 watts.
2005
On May 27, CKDU was authorized to increase ERP from 520 to 3,200 watts, decrease antenna height and relocate the transmitter.
2010
On April 9, the CRTC approved the application by CKDU-FM Society regarding the English-language community-based campus radio programming undertaking CKDU-FM. The licensee proposed to change the authorized contours of CKDU-FM by decreasing the average effective radiated power from 3,200 watts to 2,460 watts (non-directional antenna with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of 156.5 metres). The licensee also proposed to change the location of the transmission site. The licensee indicated that its existing site was no longer available because it was deemed to be a public safety hazard. The licensee also indicated that, since the proposed site was considerably higher, there would be secondary benefits to the move, such as an increase in the size of the service area as well as in the quality of CKDU-FM’s signal within its broadcast range. The Commission noted that the population served within the station’s 3 mV/m contour would increase from 226,444 to 304,316. The population served within its 0.5 mV/m contour would increase from 335,446 to 371,866.
2018
On July 13, the CRTC renewed the licence of CKDU-FM to 31 August 2023. This short-term licence renewal would allow for an earlier review of the licensee’s compliance with regulatory requirements. According to Commission records, the licensee’s annual returns for the 2015-2016 broadcast year were filed 11 months and two weeks after the 30 November deadline. The Commission noted that the licensee had acknowledged the non-compliance and demonstrated an understanding of its regulatory obligations. The Commission was satisfied with the corrective actions taken by the licensee. The Commission noted, however, that this was the second consecutive licence term in which the licensee had been in non-compliance with respect to the submission of annual returns.
