1980

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation opened CBWK-FM. It operated on a frequency of 100.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 9,400 watts.  Studios and offices were located at 7 Selkirk Avenue.

1994

When CBWK had its licence renewed, it was noted to be originating programming from the CBC Radio network via CBW Winnipeg; producing 10 hours of local programming per week; and providing access to Native Communication Inc. to broadcast the program Owetamakewak on weeknights.

1995

On January 18, the CRTC approved the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CBWK-FM Thompson by decreasing the effective radiated power of its rebroadcast transmitter, CBWN-FM Gods Lake Narrows from 1,800 watts to 456 watts. The CBC indicated that the power decrease would not affect the coverage over populated areas.

On March 30, the CRTC approved the application to amend the licence for CBWK-FM by decreasing the effective radiated power of its transmitter CBWD-FM Waasagomach from 1,700 watts to 912 watts. The CBC indicated that the power decrease would not affect the coverage over populated areas.

CBC Radio added overnight programming to its schedule on May 1, with “CBC Radio Overnight”. The programming started out on certain CBC stations and was expanded to all of its stations by September. The program aired between 1:00 and 6:00 a.m. (local time) and offered reports from public broadcasters in 25 countries, with Canadian news on the hour. The program service was provided by the World Radio Network in London, England.

1997

On September 1, the CBC Radio network (CBC Radio) was renamed as “CBC Radio One”.

2001

On May 15, CBWK-FM was authorized to add transmitter CHFC Churchill to its licence as programming is no longer being produced at that location. CFHC operates on a frequency of 1230 kHz with a power of 250 watts (full-time). 

As of 2001, CBWK-FM operated the following transmitters: CBDE-FM Brochet, CHFC Churchill, CBWU-FM Cranberry Portage, CBWE-FM Easterville, CBWF-FM Flin Flon, CBWG-FM Gillam, CBWN-FM Gods Lake Narrows, CBWH-FM Grand Rapids, CBWI-FM Ilford, CBWP-FM Leaf Rapids, CBWR-FM Little Grand Rapids, CBDU-FM Lynn Lake, CBWC-FM Moose Lake, CBWO-FM Nelson House, CBWM-FM Oxford House, CBDI-FM Poplar River, CBDS Pukatawagan, CBDG-FM Shamattawa, CBWL-FM Snow Lake, CBWQ-FM South Indian Lake, CBWJ-FM The Pas, CBWD-FM Waasagomach, and CBWB-FM Wabowden. CBWK-FM broadcasts approximately 10 hours of local programming each week. It is jointly produced in Thompson and Winnipeg.

2008

On May 20, the CBC received approval for CBWK-FM to operate a new FM transmitter at Pukatawagan. The transmitter will operate at 102.5 MHz with an effective radiated power of 200 watts. The CBC indicated that the FM transmitter is intended to replace its existing AM transmitter CBDS and that recently, the Mathias Colomb Cree National Chief and Council advised the CBC that the CBDS site is contaminated and they will proceed to decontaminate it by June 2008. The CBC stated that the FM transmitter needs to be operational by this date.

2009

On May 12 the CRTC renewed the licence for CBWK-FM. The renewal included the following rebroadcast transmitters: CBDS-FM Pukatawagan, CHFC Churchill, CBDE-FM Brochet, CBDG-FM Shamattawa, CBDI-FM Poplar River, CBDU-FM Lynn Lake, CBWB-FM Wabowden, CBWC-FM Moses Lake, CBWD-FM Wassagomach, CBWE-FM Easterville, CBWF-FM Flin Flon, CBWG-FM Gillam, CBWH-FM Grand Rapids, CBWI-FM Ilford, CBWJ-FM The Pas, CBWL-FM Snow Lake, CBWM-FM Oxford House, CBWN-FM Gods Lake Narrows, CBWO-FM Nelson House, CBWP-FM Leaf Rapids, CBWQ-FM South Indian Lake, CBWR-FM Little Grand Rapids and CBWU-FM Cranberry Portage.

2013

On May 28, the CRTC renewed the licence of CBWK-FM Thompson and its transmitters CBDE-FM Brochet , CBDG-FM Shamattawa, CBDI-FM Poplar River, CBDS-FM Pukatawagan, CBDU-FM Lynn Lake, CBWB-FM Wabowden, CBWC-FM Moose Lake, CBWD-FM Waasagomach, CBWE-FM Easterville, CBWF-FM Flin Flon, CBWG-FM Gillam, CBWH-FM Grand Rapids, CBWI-FM Ilford, CBWJ-FM The Pas, CBWL-FM Snow Lake, CBWM-FM Oxford House, CBWN-FM Gods Lake Narrows, CBWO-FM Nelson House, CBWP-FM Leaf Rapids, CBWQ-FM South Indian Lake, CBWR-FM Little Grand Rapids, CBWU-FM Cranberry Portage and CHFC Churchill, for a five year term to August 31, 2018.

2018

In August, CBWK-FM reinstated local programming during morning drive.
