2011

On October 26, the CRTC approved an application by the CBC to amend the licence for CBTK-FM Kelowna, by adding a new FM transmitter in Lillooet. The new transmitter would replace the CBC’s existing low-power transmitter in Lillooet and operate at 92.7 MHz (channel 224A1) with an effective radiated power of 90 watts (non-directional antenna with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of -816.5 metres). The CBC submitted this application following a request by the city of Lillooet to relocate its current AM rebroadcasting transmitter to an alternate site designated by the city. Instead of building a new AM transmitter site, CBC proposed to install an FM mono rebroadcasting transmitter.

On December 15, the CRTC approved the application by the CBC to amend the licence for CBTK-FM Kelowna in order to operate a nested low-power FM rebroadcasting transmitter at Field to replace its existing AM transmitter CBRD. The new transmitter would operate on 97.1 MHz (channel 246LP) with an effective radiated power of 9 watts (non-directional antenna with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of -502.4 metres). The licensee indicated that the transition to FM was necessary to keep from adding infrastructure inside the National Park and that this option would also greatly improve the quality of service. The CBC also indicated that it wished to relinquish its authority for CBRD and delete it from the CBTK-FM licence once the FM transmitter was approved.

Chris Walker became the new morning host at CBC Radio Kelowna on September 6. A new afternoon show began in October with Rebecca Zandbergen as host.

2012
