On September 12, the CRTC approved the application by The Church of the Nazarene of Rimbey, operating as Rimbey Church of the Nazarene for a new low-power English-language FM religious radio station at Rimbey. The new station would broadcast a live audio feed of the Church of the Nazarene of Rimbey’s Sunday morning services to local shut-ins, hospital patients and other people who were unable to attend church. The station would broadcast a minimum of 5 hours of local programming in each broadcast week.
Approximately 90% of the programming offered by the station would be spoken word and about 10% would be devoted to non-classic religious music performed at the services by community artists. The licence would expire 31 August 2008.

VF8020 commenced broadcasting.

On November 21, the CRTC set out an exemption order for low-power radio stations that provided programming that was derived solely from houses of worship. The exemption order went into effect immediately. Licensees of radio programming undertakings that considered their operations to be eligible for exemption under the order could file a simple statement asking that the Commission revoke their licences. VF8020’s broadcasting licence would expire on August 31, 2014.

On January 14, the CRTC approved The Church of Nazarene of Rimbey’s application to have its licence revoked.
