Inspired by the novel “The Code” by GB Joyce, Global’s new series Private Eyes debuted on the network on May 26th 2016, and ran to July 28th. The 10-episode procedural drama was filmed and set in Toronto, and followed ex-pro hockey player Matt Shade, played by Jason Priestley, whose life underwent a major change when he decided to team up with private investigator Angie Everett, played by Cindy Sampson, to form their own P.I. agency. Other members of the cast included Barry Flatman as Shade’s father Don; Jordyn Negri as Shade’s 14-year-old visually impaired daughter Jules, Clé Bennett as Detective Derek Nolan; and Ennis Esmer as Detective Kurtis Mazhari.
First season guest stars included PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu, four-time JUNO Award-winning rapper, record producer, and record executive Kardinal Offishall, hockey legend Doug Gilmour, and former WWE superstar, “Edge” Adam Copeland.
Private Eyes was produced by eOne in association with Corus Entertainment. Executive producers were John Morayniss, Rachel Fulford and Tecca Crosby for eOne and Shawn Piller and Lloyd Segan for Piller Segan together with Shelley Eriksen, Alan McCullough, Tassie Cameron, Kelly Makin, and Jason Priestley. The series was created by Tim Kilby and Shelley Eriksen.
9 episodes of Season 2 of Private Eyes played between May 25th and July 20th 2017, and in September Global ordered a further 12 episodes of the series for broadcast in 2018. These premiered on Global on May 27th 2018. Meanwhile, season 3 was already in production for broadcast in 2019, with singer Jann Arden announced as making a cameo appearance in the first episode.
