U.S. game show producers Roger Muir and Nick Nicholson were among the few who found a way to use playing cards successfully in a television game show context, with Pay Cards, in which contestants played against one another to build poker hands. U.S. game show host Art James came to Montreal to host this series, which was also syndicated south of the border.
Pay Cards was produced at CFCF-TV Montreal, and the half-hour series ran for two years, 1973-1975, as a daytime strip at 9:30am Monday through Friday. Its successor, Super Pay Cards (q.v.), played on CTV for one season, 1981-82.
