Max Haines Crime Flashback

Network: Global Television Network

Broadcast Run: 2004 to 2005

Broadcast Medium: Television

A Canada-Ireland co-production, this show was hosted by Canadian newspaper crime columnist and crime novelist Max Haines. Each episode focused on an unusual but true crime. The stories were researched and written by Haines who wrote columns in the Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton and Calgary Sun newspapers. He eventually became syndicated in other newspapers and wrote several crime novels.

Haines introduced each show with a bit of black comedy added to the suspense and mystery, a la Alfred Hitchcock or Rod Serling. Stories included a bumbling lawyer who tried to kill his wife seven times. Another portrayed diabolical farmers in Quebec who insured elderly people, only to kill them and collect their money. The stories came from various eras, spanning over 200 years of crime history. Guest stars on the drama included Canadians William Shatner, Kenneth Welsh and John Wildman.
