Lady Is a Four Letter Word

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1975

Broadcast Medium: Television

Aired Friday afternoons from April 11 to May 30, 1975.
Elizabeth Gray was the host of this half hour show about women’s issues, which was produced in Ottawa. International Women’s Year was 1975, so there’s a good chance that this show might not have been produced at all, except to find a way to mark the occasion.
The show examined contemporary issues important to women, including marriage, the home, the workplace and legal concerns. Bob Carl was the token male on the show. Unfortunately, this show was considered misguided, editorially speaking, and was not renewed after its one and only season came to an end. Among the many unusual features: a sexist honour roll on toilet paper.
The producer of the show was Nancy McLarty. It debuted in January of 1975 and wasbroadcast locally in Ottawa, before being re-launched on the network in April.
Elizabeth Gray replaced Barbara Frum on As It Happens on CBC radio a few years later.
