Ice Pilots NWT was a thirteen-part reality documentary series that debuted on the History Channel in 2009, and was then scheduled on the full Global network starting on September 24th.
The series followed a group of elite pilots in Yellowknife and the extraordinary adventures of the most unorthodox airline in the Canadian North. Real life Arctic airline Buffalo Airways used WWII-era propeller planes to haul vital fuel, supplies and passengers to remote outposts. Rookie pilots went to Yellowknife to receive their training and for the chance to earn their wings flying vintage planes originally built for war. Their jobs included such challenges as landing vital cargo onto airstrips at mine sites, and carving out runways on frozen lakes and rocky tundra, despite frequent blizzards and breakdowns.
A second season began on the History Channel on January 12th 2011, and ran to April 6th. Season three began on October 11th 2011, and ended on January 19th 2012. It did not continue on Global beyond the first series.
The narrator was Michael Daingerfield.
