This period comedy was one of the first colour programs on CBC. It featured the adventures of the Hatches, a family who settled in southern Ontario in 1830. The stories were framed around the members of the community, in Hatch’s Mill, and how they resolved their conflicts, usually with humour. Only ten hour-long episodes were produced, and due to the critical beating the series took in the press, it wasn’t renewed.
But the show did have a reputable production team: Ronald Weyman, who produced Wojeck and Quenton Durgens M.P., writer George Salverson, set designer Robert Lawson, director George McCowan, and cinematographers, Norman G. Allin and Ernie Fitzpatrick.
The show was shot on location in Black Creek Pioneer Village, with pick-ups in Kleinburg Ontario, site of The Forest Rangers.
