A one hour pilot of Getting Along Famously aired on CBC in January 2005, and ratings were sufficiently impressive for the CBC to commission a six-half hour series to debut in January 2006.
Starring in the pilot and the series were comedian Colin Mochrie and his actress wife Debra McGrath. Set in 1964, the series chronicled the backstage and onstage adventures of Ruby Kendall (McGrath) and Kip Delaney (Mochrie} whose variety series It’s Ruby and Kip portrayed them as a loving couple, even though they had been married and divorced, and only reunited to do the show, with mixed results.
Other members of the cast included Patrick McKenna, Robin Duke, Ed Sahely, Bob Martin, Barbara Radecki and Cheryl MacInnis, with guest appearances by Tom McCamus, Wayne Brady and Kathryn Greenwood.
The series was co-created by Mochrie, McGrath and Deborah Day, who also served as Executive Producers, with Day also directing. Alex Galatis was Executive Story Editor, and co-writer with Mochrie and McGrath.
Getting Along Famously made its debut as a half-hour series on CBC on Friday January 6th at 9:30pm. It ran for six weeks, but was not renewed, though it later became available on DVD.
