On February 27th 2010 Global announced today principal photography and casting for a new legal drama, Family Law, would begin With filming beginning March 2 in Vancouver, Family Law would be produced by Seven24 Films and Lark Productions, created by Canadian award-winning author Susin Nielsen, with Jordan Canning directing the pilot episodeThe series would premiere on Global later in 2020.
The 10-episode, one-hour drama would follow a group of flawed family members who reluctantly worked together at their father’s law firm in downtown Vancouver. The legal procedural would star an all-Canadian cast including: Jewel Staite as recovering alcoholic Abigail ‘Abby’ Bianchi; Victor Garber as Harry Svensson, Abby’s estranged father and head of the firm; Zach Smadu as Daniel Svensson, Abby’s half-brother who was displeased to be working with Abby; and Genelle Williams as Lucy Svensson, Abby’s half-sister and considered dad’s favourite child.
On June 23rd, in announcing its programming plans for the 2020-21 season,. Global said that Family Law would premiere early in 2021.
