Set in Vancouver, Da Vince’s Inquest was a one-hour series that ran on the CBC for 91 episodes between 1998 and 2005. It depicted the exploits of Dominic Da Vinci, a crusading coroner, whose character was based on that of real-life Vancouver coroner Larry Campbell.
Debuting on October 7, 1998, the series featured a strong cast, including NICHOLAS CAMPBELL (Dominic Da Vinci), ALEX DIAKUN (Forensic Investigator Chick Savoy), KIM HAWTHORNE (Detective Rose Williams), SULEKA MATHEW (Dr. Sunny Ramen), GERARD PLUNKETT (Chief Coroner Bob Kelly), SARAH-JANE REDMOND (Sgt. Sheila Kurtz), DONNELLY RHODES (Detective Leo Shannon), SARAH STRANGE (Helen), VENUS TERZO (Detective Angela Kosmo) and IAN TRACEY (Detective Mick Leary).
Others featured in many of the episodes included Gwyneth Walsh, Robert Wisden, Colin Cunningham, Sarah Strange, Jewel Staite, Terry Chen and Callum Keith Rennie.
The Executive Producers were Chris Haddock and Laszlo Barna, with Arvi Liinatainen and Lynn Barr as producers. Haddock was also head writer, with Alan Di Fiore, Frank Borg and Esta Spalding as his key writers.
The final episode played on the CBC on January 23rd 2005. A sequel, Da Vinci’s City Hall, debuted on October 25th 2005, ending on February 28th 2006 but the series was cancelled after one season.
A movie about Da Vinci that utilized many of the series’ cast and was titled The Quality of Life, played on the CBC onJune 14th 2008.
Da Vinci’s Inquest was a Haddock Entertainment/Barna-Alper Production in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and with the participation of the Canadian Television Fund, Telefilm Canada, the British Columbia and Canadian Film and Video Tax Credit, and the Canwest Western Independent Producers Fund.
Alliance Atlantis distributed the program in Canada and internationally.
