Inspired by the American sitcom The Honeymooners, as well as one of the actors in the series, Olivier Guimond, Cré Basile! was one of the first situation comedies to make its appearance on the Quebec television landscape. Written by Marcel Gamache, it portrayed the ups and downs of Basile (Olivier Guimond), a plumber by trade, who always had to extricate himself from the most peculiar situations, with the help of his wife Alice (Béatrice Picard) and their friends Fabien (Denis Drouin) and Colombe (Amulette Garneau).
Broadcast every Tuesday evening, from September 14, 1965 to June 2, 1970, Télé-Métropole aired 175 episodes of this comedy directed by Claude Lavallée, Guy Robillard and Pierre Ste-Marie. Cré Basile! maintained its position as one of the most popular Quebec TV programs of the time and ranks amongst one of the biggest success stories in the history of Télé-Métropole.
